Steuben Glass and Crystal patterns, figurines, vases and giftware

Replacements in the Steuben Glass and Crystal patterns, Verre De Soie, figurines and giftware, made in Corning New York, USA.

Steuben Glass Company - glassworks founded in 1903 by T.G. Hawkes and Frederick Carder at Corning, N.Y. It was purchased by the Corning Glass Works in 1918 but continued to be directed by Carder until 1933. The company became known for fancy coloured glassware, particularly a type with an iridescent, translucent finish called Aurene. Another specialty was Intarsia glass, crystal glassware with soft, overlapping colour inlays. In the 1930s the firm began making glassware from a new colourless lead crystal developed by Corning. Steuben has since manufactured fine glass products of cut, engraved, and free-blown designs made almost exclusively of that type of crystal glass. Steuben went out of business in December, 2011. It is common that only part of sets or collections have signatures

steuben glass verre de soie sherbet, powder jar, perfume bottleSteuben Verre De Soie was first made by Frederick Carder at the Steuben Glass Works from about 1905 to 1930. It is an iridescent glass of soft white or very, very pale green. The name means "glass of silk", and it does resemble silk. Other factories have made verre de soie, and some of the English examples were made of different colors. Verre de soie is an art glass and is not related to the iridescent, pressed, white carnival glass mistakenly called by its name. The Verre de Soie, Cluthra, Cinta, and Aurene were lines made by the Steuben Glass Works.
These pieces are monogrammed with an Old English "W". Looks more like a decoration than letter. Purchased at Rockwell's, Corning NY. The sherbet has the original price tag still on the piece. The original sales receipt will be included if you buy all three Verre De Soie items or you can ask for a copy. It may be hard to get a good copy because of the receipt's age.
