Homer Laughlin China, The Angelus, China Replacements

Replacement China in the Angelus china patterns made by Homer Laughlin China.

angelus rose patternThe Homer Laughlin China Angelus shape, a favorite with both Sears, Roebuck & Co. and Montgomery Ward & Co. catalogs, dates from the first decade of the 1900s.

An invoice from the archives of HLC which is dated 1905 appears in a Sears catalog of 1906. Another invoice from HLC shows that Angelus was still being sold in 1916. Except for the cups, Angelus is usually found marked with its name and is moderately easy to find in antiques stores. Description of points to look for: Angelus has crinkly handles and finials, which are its most identifying mark. It can also be identified by tiny beading that surrounds its rims. The flatware has a scalloped edge. This shape is found mainly decorated in various types of small flowers of which roses were the favorites of that time.
