The Appletree set of five nesting bowls 5", 6", 7", 8" and 9" was designed by Fredrick Rhead. The Appletree bowls have embossed elongated trees, a style Mr. Rhead commonly used in his art pottery. The bowls are sometimes referred to as "Orange Tree Bowls". The bowls can be found undecorated in green, melon yellow, old ivory and turquoise with the most common color being turquoise.
Japanese potters copied the Appletree bowls in 1936. Most of the Homer Laughlin Appletree bowls are incised HLC in the base. The same decorations that were used on Oven Serve were also used on the Appletree bowls. There may be six sizes of Appletree bowls instead of the five listed in company records. |
