 In the early 1900s in an attempt to enter the art pottery field, Homer Laughlin produced a unique line of art china.
It was marked in gold or black with an eagle and the name ´Laughlin Art China´. Examples of this ware are very rare, but it has an enthusiastic following.
Perhaps as many as eighty-nine shapes were used, and several different decorating techniques were employed. Most are decaled,
but occasionally you will find a hand-decorated piece that may be artist signed. Their most extensive pattern was called
´Currant´, brown ware with decals of berries and vines.
 In the late 19th Century, the American public had a preference for goods manufactured in England. And because of this, some American pottery manufacturers were disguising their products by calling it “royal” or by using the English lion in their company’s stamp. Homer Laughlin decided to counter this by creating a company logo showing the American eagle subduing the British lion. The eagle is seen on top, as the lion struggles to survive on his back below.
