Century 1931 - The Century shape was introduced in 1931 and the first decorated ware was introduced in November 1932. Fredrick Rhead designed the rectangular shape, which was quite different from the dinnerware shapes that had been previously produced by the Homer Laughlin China Company. Dr. A.V. Bleininger developed the rich ivory vellum glaze. Century was a popular movie give away and advertising shape.
In 1938 Century shapes were dipped in solid color glazes of red, yellow, light green and blue and was called Riviera. The salt pepper shakers were made in the Tango shape for the Century patterns.
