Homer Laughlin China, Chelsea 1886 china replacements

Chelsea 1886 china replacements made by Homer Laughlin China.

Chelsea was a translucent, vitrified porcelain or china and was designed by Elijah Chetwynd in early 1886.  It was produced in a full line of thin dinnerware and tea services as well as water jugs, trays and beakers.  Old trade journals describe the body as the color of milk, neither white or cream, with a fragile eggshell like quality.  It was the first shape to use the Laughlin horseshoe back stamp.  The Laughlin horseshoe backstamp was only used on china made from 1886 to 1889.
