Homer Laughlin China, Duraprint China Replacements

Replacement China in the Homer Laughlin China Duraprint patterns.

The Duraprint process consists of printing designs on the china, rather than applying a decorative design by means of painting or with decals.  It allows the design to be placed under the glaze, thus giving it a longer life.  This process was brought to the United States from Argentina by a student of Don Schreckengost´s.  This process made use of an inflatable balloon or bladder which pressed against the piece to be decorated when air pressure was applied to it.  The design itself was contained in a thin metal plate which was punctured with tiny holes in the form of the design.  The colors to be applied bled through these holes in the form of the design.  This process proved to be impossible for use on the hollowware pieces such as sugar, creamer, cups etc., as the printing device could not wrap around the piece.
