Homer Laughlin China, Modern Farmer, China Replacements
Replacement China in the Modern Farmer china patterns made by Homer Laughlin China in Newell, West Virginia.
Modern Farmer 1938 - The original Modern Farmer shape was produced at the James River Pottery at Hopewell, Virginia and was introduced in 1938 with a decoration called Riviera. Homer Laughlin completed producing the shape and continued to use the name Modern Farmer although it was first referred to in the art department as "Hopewell". Some of the shapes were redesigned for Homer Laughlin's automatic jigger equipment. There did not seem to be a demand for this unusual shape and it was dropped after a short production run.
