Homer Laughlin China, Republic, China Replacements

Replacement China in the Republic china patterns made by Homer Laughlin China in Newell, West Virginia.

Republic 1916 - The Homer Laughlin China Company introduced the Republic shape in 1916.  Republic is a very old standard shape and was used by several potteries for several years.  Homer Laughlin always called the shape Republic but it was called other names, such as Ranson, Radisson, and Monterey by other potteries.

This shape is considered "the grand old lady of Homer Laughlin shapes", as it was produced from 1916 through the 1960s.  The Republic shape was a favorite with Sears Roebuck, although it was sold by Alden's, Cunningham and Pickett, Butler Brothers, F.W. Woolworth, and Montgomery Wards.  A 1949 Wards catalog lists a 53 piece set of Republic for $17.95.  A 1919 Sears catalog lists a 112 pice set for $22.92 which weighed 100 pounds. Most all of the potteries had a shape very similar to Republic. -  Information on Republic Shape from Homer Laughlin China, Guide to Shapes and Patterns by Jo Cunningham and Darlene Nossaman.
