Modern Star 1958 - Modern Star is not a shape but a short dinnerware set with undistinguishing characteristics. The Taylor, Smith and Taylor Pottery also made the Modern Star pattern for the Quaker Oats company. The Homer Laughlin Company shared production with TS&T on several of the Quaker oats orders.

Modern Star 1958 - Modern Star was purchased by the Quaker Oats Company but distributed through the Homer Laughlin Company. According to the order blank the customer was required to send two Mother´s Oats box tops with the designated amount of money for each item ordered. Pieces could be purchased at the following prices:
4 cups/saucers $2.25, 4 fruit bowls $1.15, 4 oatmeal bowls $1.30, 4 9 1/2" Plates $1.85, 4 10" plates $2.30, 11" platter $1.15, 13" platter $1.45, vegetable dish $1.20, creamer with sugar bowl $1.85. A six piece place setting could be purchased for $2.20.
Modern Star was one of the last patterns made by Homer Laughlin and Taylor Smith & Taylor for Quaker Oats in the late 1950s. |
