Riviera China Replacements by Homer Laughlin China
Replacement China in the Riviera pattern made by Homer Laughlin China.
Riviera is a colored glaze ware on the Century shape. Riviera was glazed in Blue (called Mauve Blue by collectors), Yellow, Light Green and Tangerine (orange red). Riviera was part of an ensemble called Juanita or Juanita ware by the Homer Laughlin China Company. The Juanita ensemble included glassware and cutlery. The four colors remained throughout the 1930s and a 1941 order still shows only the four original colors. In 1943 "Red went to war" and Ivory was substituted for the Tangerine colored glaze. An October 1948 composition sheet continues to show the Blue, Yellow, Light Green and Ivory colors. The Homer Laughlin China Company only sold Riviera in four - mixed colors. Riviera was unmarked and sold exclusively by the Murphy Company. The design for the shakers was borrowed from the Tango line of HLC. --- Information on Riviera Shape from Homer Laughlin China, Guide to Shapes and Patterns by Jo Cunningham and Darlene Nossaman.
