The Yellowstone, dinnerware tableware shape is one of several which first produced during the 1920s.

Yellowstone 1927 - Yellowstone, dates from the period before Frederick Rhead joined the company, when outside designers were used to develop new shapes.  Yellowstone was probably the last shape designed by this method, since Rhead joined Homer Laughlin in 1927 and shortly thereafter began to excerise his influence over subsequent artistic work.

The Yellowstone shape broke the tradition of the round shapes of dinnerware with its octagon shape and creamy ivory or white body.  Yellowstone was so popular that additionally plants had to be built to accommodate the demand.  The unusual octagon shape was a fresh idea to the dinnerware market and possessed warmth that appealed to consumers.  Many different decorations were applied during Yellowstone´s long production run.
