MI Hummel, Figurines, Goebel, West Germany artwork

Hummel; Featuring the timeless Hummels produced in Germany by skilled Bavarian artists. Based on the artwork of Sister Maria Innocentia Hummel.

All pieces listed are "authentic" and are in good condition unless noted otherwise.
Some of these Hummels were purchased in Europe in the early 1950’s.

For over a hundred years, the world has been charmed by the gentle innocence of the Hummel figurine. These timeless collectibles have endured the test of time, and collectors worldwide continue to be fascinated by the child-like innocence that they represent.
In 1871, Franz Detleff Goebel and his son, William, founded the Goebel Co. Nineteen years later, the first Goebel porcelain doll was produced.
While in Munich, Frank Goebel viewed a greeting card that caught his eye. The drawings were simplistic yet touching in their innocence. He realized that these simple drawings could be the perfect starting point for a new line of figurines.
The talented artist was Sister Maria Innocentia Hummel, a member of the Sisters of the Third Order of St. Francis, at the Convent of Siessen. In 1934, Franz Goebel wrote a letter to her suggesting that Goebel artists convert her two-dimensional drawings into three-dimensional figurines.
He reassured her that the figurines would be true to her artwork and they would be meticulously handcrafted to meet the highest quality standards.
The introduction of M.I. Hummel figurines was in 1935 at the Leipzig Fair, a major international trade show.
To mark its 100th birthday in 1971, Goebel entered the collectors´ plate market with the introduction of the first edition of the M.I. Hummel annual plate.
